Article Transcript

It is alleged that a young girl from Rincon, who was visiting at San Marcial, New Mexico, was accompanied by a young man to a Chinese opium joint at her own request. On arriving there the young woman indulged in three pipes in succession and, although cautioned by her companion and requested to leave, insisted upon smoking a fourth pipe, which proved fatal! The Chinaman, fearing to be lynched, fled to the mountains and is said to have gone to Socorro. A coroner’s inquest has just been held and resulted in a verdict of “death by suicide.”
