Article Transcript

The Chinaman who assaulted and dangerously wounded August Berg with an ax while being taken by Sheriff McDonald to Warrens, was taken from that officer by a party of disguised men and suspended by the neck at the wire bridge on Salmon river. After hanging for about half an hour the rope was cut and his body allowed to proceed down the river.

Horse thieves have been operating in the vicinity of Lewiston lately. While running a band of Horses belonging to whites and Indians, they were overtaken by a band of Indians, and a fight ensued, in which one of the Indians received a bullet wound in the jaw. The Indians captured the horses and it is thought killed one of the thieves.

A correspondent of the Signal writing from Camas Prairie, says crops in that vicinity never looked so well as now. Sixty cents per bushel is the proposed price for wheat. Grass on the prairie is extraordinarily heavy and verdant for the time of year.

The chances for the recovery of Berg, who was wounded by the Chinaman, are considered doubtful.
