AN ANTI-CHINESE MOB.

The City Coroner of San Francisco in Very Poor Business.

SAN FRANCISCO, April 8.—A procession which attracted but little attention at the time is now known to have been productive of serious and probably, in some cases, fatal results. The City Coroner on Sunday last organized on the sand lots an anti-Chinese procession which, headed by two bands, paraded the city. Before starting the Coroner harangued the crowd on the evils in connection with the Chinese. The result was that every Chinaman who happened to cross the route of the procession was chased and illtreated if caught. It was supposed at the time that these Chinamen were more frightened than hurt. Col. Bee, the Chinese Consul, states to-day, however, that an investigation shows that 20 of their number were badly injured, many being severely cut about the head, and one fatally injured. The original intention of the Coroner was to parade his band through Chinatown. Had he done so there would have been a big butchery of the Chinese residents.
